Rheinmetall AG is one of Europe’s leading technology companies in the field of security, mobility and defence systems. With more than 30,000 employees worldwide, Rheinmetall stands for innovation, precision and reliability – in both the civil and military sectors.
The Defence Division develops and manufactures state-of-the-art solutions for vehicle systems, weapon technology, electronics and protection systems.
In light of increasing digitalisation and complexity in manufacturing processes, Rheinmetall Defence sought an integrated, SAP-based solution for production and capacity planning.
The existing tools and manual Excel processes led to
- high coordination effort,
- lack of transparency in resource management
- and limited real-time capability in order planning.
Particularly in series and single-order production, there was a need to visualise production orders and capacities across the board, identify bottlenecks at an early stage and systematically avoid planning conflicts.
- Introduction of a graphical SAP planning board for real-time control of production and maintenance orders
- Central visualisation of order status, material availability and resource utilisation
- Improving transparency, adherence to deadlines and capacity utilisation
- Integration into existing SAP modules (PP, PM, PS) and MES systems
- Training and enabling of planners and specialist departments
Key measures:
- Design and implementation of a graphical SAP planning board based on SAP ECC / S/4HANA
- Development of a Fiori-based user interface for intuitive operation and live data display
- Real-time integration of order, capacity and material data
- Signavio modelling for harmonising and optimising planning processes
- Result: A scalable, transparent and user-friendly planning cockpit that visualises real-time data and accelerates operational decisions.
- 📊 30–40% less manual planning effort
- ⚙️ Higher data quality and consistent processes
- ⏱️ Increased adherence to deadlines and capacity utilisation
- 🧭 Centralised transparency across all production orders
- 💡 User-friendly Fiori interface for planners, dispatchers and managers
