Industry: Chemical industry / Lubricants
Role: Project Management & SAP Senior Consultant
FUCHS PETROLUB SE, headquartered in Mannheim, Germany, is the world’s largest independent manufacturer of lubricants and related speciality products. The company develops, produces and distributes lubricants for the automotive industry, mechanical engineering, energy production, metal processing, food technology and many other applications.
With over 60 subsidiaries and production sites worldwide, FUCHS attaches great importance to efficiency, sustainability and technological excellence. The harmonisation and digitalisation of production processes is a central component of its global IT strategy.
As part of global SAP standardisation, a uniform production and labelling solution based on SAP standards and industry-specific add-ons was to be introduced.
The aim was to introduce a standardised labelling and marking system for raw materials, containers and end products based on the SAP add-on it.LPI (Label Printer Interface). At the same time, the goal was to digitise production, mixing and filling processes and integrate them with the SAP modules PP-PI, MM, WM and QM.
The focus was on:
- the reduction of manual interventions in production,
- ensuring compliance with legal and industry-specific requirements (e.g. GHS, REACH, CLP),
- as well as improving process stability and traceability along the supply chain.
- Different regional labelling and marking regulations
- Complex mixing and batching processes with high quality requirements
- Requirement for GHS/CLP-compliant labelling with multilingualism
- Integration of heterogeneous printing systems and filling systems
- Ensuring data integrity in a globally networked production environment
- Introduction of the SAP add-on it.LPI (Label Printer Interface) for central label control
- Development of a standardised label architecture with automatic print triggering from SAP PP-PI
- Integration of external labelling software (BarTender, NiceLabel) for GHS-compliant layouts
- Implementation of a barcode and scanner-based production feedback system
- Weighing centre for precise batch recording and automated weighing of components
- Harmonisation of SAP processes for materials management, production, quality and shipping
- End-to-end labelling processes from goods receipt to dispatch
- Increased process reliability through automated and centrally controlled labelling
- Reduction of sources of error in manual data entry and label creation
- Regulatory compliance through GHS/CLP-compliant labels
- Increased efficiency in production and logistics through standardised processes
- Foundation laid for future SAP S/4HANA migration and global rollouts
