SAP Business Suite in the cloud – overview and functionality

SAP Business Suite is back – but in a new form. In February 2025, SAP announced that it would be reusing the Business Suite name, which was already familiar from the SAP ECC on-premise era. With SAP Business Suite in the cloud, SAP is now bringing all of the company’s cloud applications together under one roof. The SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) forms the technological basis for this.

What is the new SAP Business Suite?

The new SAP Business Suite builds on the concept of the previous on-premise version: uniform business processes, seamless integration of modules and central control of data flows – now completely cloud-based. At its core, the new SAP Business Suite is not a single product, but a suite of multiple cloud solutions that are technically and functionally linked. SAP refers to this as a “cloud suite” based on a uniform architecture that integrates all business processes – from finance and logistics to human resources and customer experience.

  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition

How does SAP Business Suite work in the cloud?

The Business Suite in the cloud connects applications, data and AI functions to form an integrated ecosystem.

The aim is to enable end-to-end processes across different functional areas – without media discontinuity or redundant data storage.

Integration takes place via the BTP, which serves as a central innovation and integration platform.

SAP Business Suite 7 – the predecessor

SAP used the term SAP Business Suite 7 to refer to the on-premise product generation based on SAP ERP 6.0 and supplementary modules such as SAP SCM 7.0 and SAP PLM 7.0. This suite shaped the ERP landscapes of many companies for over a decade. Mainstream maintenance for Business Suite 7 will end in 2027, with extended maintenance available until 2030. With the new Cloud Suite, SAP is pursuing the goal of transferring this functionality to the cloud – on a modern, modular and AI-supported platform.

The German-speaking SAP User Group (DSAG) welcomes the strategic realignment: The new Cloud Suite highlights SAP’s “suite-first” approach and strengthens the integration of the systems with each other. The greater standardisation of cloud applications and central control via BTP are viewed particularly positively.
